Well, I guess you wouldn't have to worry about the body rusting! But, yeah, not sure I'd want to drive that if the sun was out.

Thanks for the write-up Larry! Great description of the sights and sounds of starting and driving an old Jeep.
Those seats look really nice, Cat! What kind of upholstery shop did you take it to? Just wondering since I need to do the same for mine. Did they specialize in car seats or something else?
I'll just add that the number is on the top of the frame in this location, right where the fender attaches to get body. So, if the fender is still attached, it will be difficult to see the number.
Thanks for the references, Bmorgil! I'll have to look into that. I've got the torque references for different bolt sizes and grades, but so many things on the Jeep don't use standard bolts/nuts and...
Quick update. Finally got the Dana 25 buttoned up and filled with gear oil. As best I could figure it took 43 oz of oil to fill it.

Also received the Warn locking washers for the front...
When I was doing this, I was able to order the Champion 00 grease from Amazon. However, I just checked and it is no longer available. I did find an alternative on Amazon, though. See link....
Thanks for the pictures, TJ. Looks like excellent work!
A few other questions, though. I assume that you don't have to worry about the under seat gas tank if you're using a 72 chassis? Seems...
Yeah, I think tarps are gonna have to be my go-to for storing these. The other issue is that I have a Kelly Hard Top that needs to be removed and stored as well. Oh, well, always a problem to...
Thanks, guys. I guess you've convinced me to pull the tub. I've basically taken the front end down to the frame and I'm slowly working my way backwards! But, of course, I realized that I can't put...
Thanks, Bmorgil. I neglected to mention that the engine is still out of the vehicle. I haven't put it back in yet. So the engine bay is completely open. I've taken off the interior floor plates...
Well, I'm still making progress on the Jeep, but seem to run into roadblocks at every turn. I successfully got the brakes adjusted on both sides and went to put on the old Warn locking hubs that I...
Very nice work! I'd be interested to see more on how and where you're attaching the cage to the frame. Also, more details such as the size of tube and how you're routing the cage within the body...
FYI, 56willys, the serial number stamped on my frame matches exactly to the serial number on the plate attached to the body. Of course, I know the history of my Jeep, so know that it all is...
Yeah, the photo in gmwillys link below is exactly where my 61 CJ5 is stamped as well.
Thanks, guys. I hadn't thought about it being an open differential. That makes perfect sense. I was just watching a video where the ring gear was shown rotating and didn't pay attention to what the...
Also, on the seal that is inserted in the brake drum, should it be driven completely in until it bottoms out on the bearing or just far enough in so it sits flush with the lip of the drum?
I've got another question or concern. I'm installing the front axle shafts. All is good as far as I can tell. However, when I install the shafts, both right and left and insert them as far as they...
Thanks for the additional comments, Bmorgil. That is exactly what I intend to do to adjust the brakes. I've done a lot of brakes in my time and remember setting them up just as you and 56willys...
Thanks for the help guys! Good info here. Should be a breeze to adjust them properly, although I'm not sure that my drums have the access hole in them for doing the feeler gauge type of adjustment.
Finally got the front knuckles installed and got the drivers side spindle, brake plate and brakes installed. See pics below.

One question I have is on the brake adjustment. I...
Yes, thanks for your comments, CJ3. Good points and I appreciate the additional input.
Hey TJ, what color did you paint that tub? It looks very similar to the original color of my 61 CJ5 and I've been trying to identify it. Thanks!
Thanks for all the input, guys. I still have a lot to think about and learn!
I've been following the other thread by 56Willys where the discussion of welding and welders has come up. Rather than hijack that thread, I figured I'd start one over here specifically on welders...
