The Hot Spark is a great replacement for the points. I couldnt with mine because it was the only distributor they didnt make one for so i bought the elecctronic distributor. Bettn money its the carb

Did you forget to tighten the Distributor, maybe it has moved.. Have you rebuilt the carb,,Maybe a jet is clogged.

New gaskets on the diffs. The trans will likely need some seals replaced or just have it overhauled while its cold!
If everything is running fine-drive it! If the gaskets dont leak, dont worry about it- thats my take
There is a plate on the plate on the bottom(hard to even notice unless your looking for it) side of most with numbers. I destroyed mine getting the distributor out with a pipe wrench. If u can't...
Doubt any need to be grade 8. You'll just have to use some trial and error on the size, find what will fit and take those to the store with you. Stainless steel looks nice and is prolly plenty strong.
Sometimes a starter needs shims for the teeth to mesh with the flywheel. When a starter is replaced sometimes a person doesnt remember or even notice them when putting it back on.
