    67 m606a2 South Africa

    Background:
    =========
    This Jeep Was build in about July 67 and then exported to Switzerland (the m606A2 is the export version of the M38A1)
    The USAF also used a few M606A2's.
    At the end of its life it was sold and imported to South Africa, where I am the owner now.
    It is the only registered M606A2 in South Africa and more important is it 100% original with matching numbers on data plates.

    Restoration:
    ========
    Restoration took a good 8 years.
    The Jeep was completely disassembled, And the chassis was sand blasted and then resprayed. it also got new set of wheels at that stage.
    It was then from there, being rebuild little by little.
    Engine / gearbox was rebuild.
    All body parts were resprayed and again assembled.
    Many parts were imported (thanks to places like Kaiser Willys that helped a lot)

    Stripped down

    Chassis resprayed

    Old engine/gearbox is being removed

    Rebuild engine/gearbox is going back

    post 2 to follow with some more photos.

    Body parts with first primer

    Starting to look like a Jeep again

    Engine bay starting to look really nice. Hurricane 2.2 L original engine that still matches the papers and the dataplates.

    It just had its first run around town.
    Much more still to be done

    Thank you for watching my pride. We now have a little something for our children's heritage.

    Well done!

    I am having an M38a1 restored, might be done by March/April. I hope mine comes out as nice your cj did. Very well done! How long did it take you start to finish?

    Wow!

    We think of Jeeps as being just "US" vehicles, but we see over and over again in these posts that these vehicles touch a place in people everywhere.
