Serial number on a cj5??

I have what I think is a cj5. I was looking for a serial number to confirm that but all the plates are gone. I was wondering if there are any other lesser known places to look. If finding the serial number isn't the right way to find year and model then please feel free to correct me. Honestly I don't really know what I'm doing so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Did you look on the engine , The number is stamped on a flat surface near the front of the engine

Google CJ5A or CJ5B to find their specific pages. There is a lot (and I mean a LOT) more tech specific info on there.
