    Dual or single action fuel pump for my 62

    I知 discovering the various modifications to 62 CJ5. I noticed that my dual action fuel pump has both
    tubes blocked off. As in plugged/not used. That being the case, I知 wondering if I could just replace it
    with a single action one. I知 not sure if it is actuated the same from the camshaft or not.

    The 'double action" fuel pump is really a fuel pump and a vacuum boost pump for wipers and other auxiliary systems. It is run off of a lobe on the camshaft.

    If your 62 CJ5 has vacuum wipers, I would strongly recommend that you replace the pump with a dual action pump and rerig the vacuum lines to at least the wipers. Some rigs used vacuum as a PCV boost, but I'm not sure just what the 62 CJ5 did.

    As LarrBeard was saying, the vacuum boost pump is important for vacuum wipers. The boost pump helps to supliment the little vacuum created when the engine is iddling or decelerating. This is why we see so many electric motor conversions.

    I've not found a 6-volt electric wiper motor conversion. After my adventure last Saturday, I think the single most non-original upgrade I would make is an electric wiper motor.

    Anyone who starts a 100-mile road trip in a 70-year old truck, with vacuum wipers and a leaky windshield, on a day with Flash Flood Warnings posted should have his head examined and his mental stability examined.

    But, the truck liked to get out and play in the rain and dirt again .....

    At least you have a roof over your head.

    For us open top Jeepers, here is a source for 6 volt wiper motors....It's not an exact fit, but it does work.

    https://www.brattons.com/6-volt-repl...per-motor.html

    For the closed cab trucks/and wagons;

    https://newportwipers.com/product-ca...trucks/willys/ [B]Note, this set up is for a 12 volt motor, but they sell an inverter that takes your 6 volt and brings it up to 12 volt.
