    Question Stay Cable

I have a 1949 Willys pickup, 4X4, 4 cylinder, F series. Does anyone know the length of the stay cable that connects the bell housing to the transmission cross member? I have found a 15" & 3/8, a 14" & 1/2, and a 11" & 3/4. Maybe the only way to know is to measure the distance on my truck but right now that is not easy for me to do. Many have told me not to bother, but it is or was there for a reason so I would like to get one.

    Thank you in advance, Tony

    Tony,

The 15 3/8" should be the correct stay cable for your application. It is a good idea to have the stay cable, especially if you plan to use your truck. The cable is there to tie the engine and transmission to the transmission cross member when the Jeep is used in extreme conditions. In my mind, it would be a good restoration touch to have it even if it is just aesthetics.

Thank you for your question! We appreciate you being here with us.
