Preservation of T14 Trans & Transfer Case

Hey guys, I just picked up a Dauntless V6 with T14 transmission and transfer case from a friend. I have a 69 cj5 with this drive train. I have no immediate need for any of these but felt like it was a good idea to have these around for any future needs. I plan to put the engine on a stand and take my time going through it but I plan on putting the trans and transfer case away for awhile. Is there anything I can put in these to coat the gears and bearings to help prevent corrosion and keep everything clean and free?

There is a couple ways you can go. The first is to change the oil with fresh, then pull the shift tower to expose the top of the gears. Use some metal protectent. Amzoil makes a good product that puts a waxy coating on the metal, and would not require a lot of cleaning to put the transmission and T case back in operation. The second is easier. Change the oil, and periodically turn the out put shaft with the transmission in gear to get lube to coat the gears. Shift through all the gears and repeat. This will not keep the shift tower lubed, but is better than nothing. The location of the storage will be important as well. Out side, under a cover, then I would go the first route. A climate controlled basement, the second.
