After rebuilding my 48 CJ2A engine 4-134 flat head, I finally got the engine reinstalled. However, when I tried to reconnect the accelerator (gas) pedal linkage, it appears that the linkage from the back of engine block to the carburetor is upside down? It appears that when installing the engine, you have to manually hold this linkage down, or it will simply fall of its own weight into an upside down position. The service manual doesn't mention this linkage when reinstalling the engine. I am a rank amaturor with auto mechanics and have never removed/reinstalled an engine before.

Is there ANY WAY to reverse this linkage without pulling the whole engine back out 6 inches??? Or is there some other way to link the gas pedal to the carburetor linkage? HELP!

Remove front motor mounts set engine down Then you have just enough room to remove bolts on bracket. Also bracket can be mounted upside down. Bolts go above cross shaft not below it.

Thank you. I'll try that. However, I don't see how removing the front motor mounts will allow the engine block to lower. The mounts are bolted to the frame on a slanting, diagonal brace that is welded to the frame. Because of this the front of the engine doesn't look like it will lower, just raise to pull the engine UPWARD, not downward. However, I'll try it and see what happens. Thanks again for your suggestion.
