I've noticed in several new vehicles the following scenario:

Vehicle is traveling with LED day-time running lights around/adjacent to the headlights
Vehicle activates turn signal indicator
Vehicle shuts off LED running light while turn signal indicator is flashing
LED running lights turn on once the turn signal indicator stops
Here are the cars I've seen seen this happen:

Jeep Grand Cherokee
Audi Q5
Kia Sportage
Ford Focus
Why don't the LED running lights stay on while the turn signal is on?

Blame it on the Feds. If the turn indicator is in close proximity to the daytime running light, the DRL is turned off during the turn light is in operation. Big brother believes we can't determine that a turn signal is on while other lights are on. The DRL in LED is so bright, that it drowns out the turn signal, according to the government.
