Not a flake.

Yesterday afternoon was one of those days that make you realize you've been in Indiana too long.

The sun was shining ..
There was no wind..
You say; "What a nice day"..

And you realize it's 19-degrees
(well, it might have been 30 degrees...)

Becky actually opened the front door and sat in the sunshine pouring through the storm door.

A little snow doesn’t shut much down in east central Oklahoma except schools. A forecast of snow or ice is enough to cancel school here. I see an average of one car or truck in the ditch every mile if I go out when it is slick here. I grew up in Nebraska when it still snowed and stayed cold there and the military gave me the opportunity to gain more experience winter driving in mountains, Korea and Alaska. I try not to go out when it is slick. Not because it is slick but because I know the lack of respect for the slick other drivers have in this area.

TJones

Everyone pretty much stays off the roads around here, but don't go to the store if sleet or snow are mentioned in the forecast. There will be no loaf bread or milk at the grocery store. All this time of living here, and I still have yet to find someone who can explain why. Milk sandwiches?

gmwillys
08-11-2022, 08:58 AM
It's not egging you on, it's encouragement so to speak.

Let's use the universal Jeep justification chart;

Pros: 1) Miss Becky needs her very own
2) It's red
3) It's a convertible, so it's an investment that goes up in value, as the top comes down.
4) Ham's 48 won't be lonely
5) It's rare
6) More room for grandkids to ride and get ice cream.

Cons: 1) It's rare. Most parts are available, but some are not.
2) Maintaining two vintage Willys/ tag / insurance
3) Twice the car barn space consumed during winter hibernation.
4) Bat poop protective covering doubled.
5) Convertible top care.

Of course this list goes flying out the window when a good deal shows up, and the cons seem to not be that big of a deal.

TJones

All my spare time this winter, I’m starting to go to auctions and I ran across this tractor at one last week.
It’s a late 70’s early 80’s Kubota B7100 4WD,3 cylinder diesel with a live PTO, 3 point hitch and 2-60" mower decks and it hasn’t ran for 15-20 years. I had to share it knowing gm was a big tractor fan at the rust ranch:cool:
I picked it up pretty cheap thinking my daughter and son in law are in the process of buying a place up by the old Coliseum in Richfield with 6.5 acres and they sure could use it around the place if the Ole Man can getter back to life and running!!!!

Can you tell I am getting bored???:confused::confused:

This one I have only has 600 hours on it.

gmwillys
02-14-2023, 02:53 AM
TJ, I must of missed something..... Is that a Dodge Swept Line pickup sneaking into the photo?

I have to stay away from auctions. I buy the darnedest things, as long as it's cheap. The little Kubota was a good purchase. It won't take much to get it in top working order and will make a perfect grass cutter for your daughter and Son in Law. A guy at work showed me some photos a while back of a B series Kubota that was going pretty cheap. We took the trip over to Georgia and he ended up buying it. It came with a loader, a disk, new mounted turf tires, fairly new ag tires on the tractor, and a bush hog. The three-point cover was apart because the hydraulics quit working. He put it all back together, flushed a bunch of FOD out of the case to include chicken feathers, changed the filters a couple of times and it now works like new. The loader needed a couple of new dump cylinders and the lift cylinders re-packed, now it works well too. All in all, it will be worth far more than the $1,200 he paid for it, and three weekends worth of labor.

TJones
02-14-2023, 06:42 AM
Damn gm you have an eye like an Eagle :):)
It sure is a 1970 Swept Line W-100 short bed with a automatic, it is my neighbors truck his Dad gave to him b4 he passed 20 some years ago. His Dad retired from Chrysler and he bought it brand new, it is kinda rare I'm hearing bc it was built in Dec. of 70 and they ran out of 318's and started putting 383 BB's in them and there are only 5-600 that were built with the BB's. it has been setting in his garage for 15+ years and he wanted me to get it running again. it is spotless, no rust and straight as an arrow the only problem is it was painted Orange "of all colors" at one point. He will not sell it for love nor money bc it is all he has left of his Pappy's.

I will post some pictures as soon as I re-size them.

gmwillys
02-15-2023, 02:21 AM
Sweet '70! The 383 would be exceptionally rare indeed in a short box. Your neighbor is smart to hang on to the truck for nothing more than sentimental value.

The last couple of auctions I've gone to, I haven't bought anything. The prices are either out of sight, or the owner throws out a reserve that is too high for what it is. I tried to buy a Ford model 2000 diesel tractor for a base to put my Ford 335 industrial tractor back together. My would-be winning bid was $4,250, but it was a no-sale because he wanted $6,000 for it. Nope. I was pushing the value of it at $4 K for what it was and the work that was needed to make it perfect. Plus, I need another tractor or anything else requiring attention around the ranch. One thing I've learned about going to an auction. Always pull the trailer, because even if you have no intention in buying anything, that's when you run across something you can't live without. Bmorgil, I think your son may have gotten his love of unique machinery honestly.

This one I have only has 600 hours on it.

A little late with this. Kept forgetting to go around to the carport and look. The G3200 has 1098 hours. Most of the recent hours have come from mowing 4 acres of rough pasture. Takes forever with a 40” deck.

Well I couldn't stand not having anything to do after retiring so I started another Jeep Project.
I sold the "Orange Crush" to a guy and he wanted me to built a Jeep for his Son out of a Jeep he bought (local to me) from a college roommate, and that is where my story/project begins.
He bought a really Nice 58 CJ-5 with a stock F-134, T-90 and a Dana 18 transfer case that his roommates Dad restored and he wanted something with a bigger engine, power steering and better brakes on it to getter to WO better :):).
So my buddy and I put our thinking caps on (Which at our ages is kinda hard to do) and came up with a BrainStorm of an idea.
I knew a guy that had a 1972 CJ-5 (the first year at that time that AMC came out with the AMC 304 V8), we knew the tub was the same as the 58 tub, but the fenders and hood were 5"s longer. So that is where it all came to life.
Here are some pictures of the 58 and the 72 "Donor" I'll call it, The Owner wanted to use the 58 body bc it was almost new, so we are in the midst of putting it on the 72 chassis.
I will update you all as progress continues, I am sure that we will run into hiccups along the way but if this Forum can chime in at anytime like you all did with my Project we will getter done!!!!

Well it appears that I have to resize all my pictures and convert them jpeg format, been a while since I have posted anything:cool::cool:
