I bought a 1959 cj5 a few months ago. I had been driving it around and everything was fine but it was leaking pretty good from the rear mail so I pulled the motor and since I got it pulled, I just as soon rebuild.
I just picked up the block, and head from the machine shop. The crank was ground .30, the rod bearings seats ground .20 and polished. The block was bored .40, a head job with new valves, seats and guides. Exhaust manifold planed and new starter gear ring installed on flywheel. The connecting rod ends were ground also. The machine shop bill was $755. Now the fun starts with the assembly. I am not a mechanic, but I have a book and I have been researching. I’ll keep y’all posted.
