I had seen the add on eWillys.com this morning. There is enough goods there to feel pretty confident that it would be a wise purchase. A Carter carb and a starter are pluses. The main thing about the block would be to look around the distributor for a crack in the block, but other then that it should be at least buildable. Even if it had a crack, most competent machine shops can fix that as well. The main fact is that the engine turns over. I say go for it. Even if you are not in need of it, it would be a great bartering tool to get something you do need.

If you are in the market for an L-134 that could be rebuilt, I say go for it, use your best bargaining skills. Starter, carburetor all are good add-ons to a bare block. It might have been a pull out for SBC mod -

The intake manifold and exhaust manifold are worth $150 at least. The starter and carb bring a bunch more. As LarrBeard alluded to, it looks like a great re-builder.

Thanks boys for the intel. It's about an hour from the casa. I need five tires for cj3 so there is my dilemma.

Good tires, (or even a matching set) are overrated. On second thought, don't follow my poor example.

I think you are saying, with the blazing top speeds and precise road feedback provided by the early Willys, the effect of a good set of trued and balanced tires is un-dectectable.

On a cold morning, a well balanced and trued up set of original equipment bias ply tires feel like you have four flat tires for the first mile or so until the flat spots round out.

Ya' gotta love them...

Oh, this is Indiana - it just may be the potholes in the road.

Dilemma solved. Someone bought the engine. It's probably for the better.
On an upside I found the extension rods for the spare tire jack on ebay for my '68 FJ40, so that's something.
