Getting ready to order my wiring harness from a company called Vintage Wiring, formerly Vintage Wiring of Maine. Just seeking opinions if anyone has heard of them, good or bad, or maybe other sources that I haven’t heard about.

I haven't used or heard of them Tom but, there are a few good wiring harness suppliers. I have worked with Painless Wiring. They are quite good. There isn't much to your CJ's wiring. As long as it is quality components It should be fine. The biggest decision is do you try to find cloth covered wire (originally only white and black), or just go ahead an use more modern stuff. I chose the modern route and I have a nice color coded wiring system. It is hidden in cloth sheathing. It is in all the original locations using all the original holders. Unless you look hard it appears pretty original.

You should be good no matter how you go, as long as the quality is good.

Since they are no longer Vintage Wiring of Maine, I wonder where the harness is made? Are they now vintage harness of Xiang Chou?

Vintage wiring is out of Silas, Alabama. I don't know if they bought out Vintage wiring of Maine, but according to Mrs. Google, they have the same phone number.... I haven't used the Alabama vintage wiring, but have used the Maine version. High quality from Maine. Will have to dig a little deeper to see what is going on.

Well, if their website is accurate, they're not in Xiang Chou. They seem to have the ability to do a very good job at reproducing a harness if they have a sample to work from.

Since they are a US company, they will probably come at a premium over a Philippines shop, but sooner or later we need to bite the bucks and bring crafts like this back stateside.

Thanks for your input men. Based on cost and the uncertainty of Vintage Wiring, I have a harness coming from Walcks. And it is approved by my man Brian in Connecticut.

Good to know, thanks... it should be noted that it is 200 cheaper than Vintage... not chump change.

The KW wiring harness is also a USA made custom harness. There are a few posts on it being a good kit also.

When we put the '48 Truck back together, I just knew I could build a harness, afgter all - I used to rewire airplanes for a living.

Then I started at looking at all the different wire sizes I would need, the terminations, the break-outs and then getting a covering over it.

It didn't take me long to see that letting someone who knows what they are doing do the job. I used a KWAS harness and it was really nice. I've had compliments on the period correct woven wire insulation with the correct body color and tracers.
