I need help please to identify my M151 - No identifying Mfg Data Plate on M151 -But identifier on engine

Unit looks like a M151A2 to me - But
This is my 1st ever Willy amd 1st ever Project Vehicle as well - Double Lost in this ?? Lol

1st it’s a Diesel ? - have not seen or knew that one

Any help at all is fantastic whether it’s the year of Engine or Years and models these engine were install in the M151 series

Hard Body is but a solid single unit as well

Welcome LMDMD,

There are a couple of quick things to look for to determine the vintage of your M151. The easiest is the shape of the front fenders. The A2s had a flat fender, then a step down on the leading edge for the more modern/larger turn indicators. The second is not as easy to determine without crawling underneath. The geometry of the rear suspension is improved from the earlier models. The lower A arms mount across the width of the MUTT, instead of mirroring the mounting of the front A frames. This made the platform much more stable in quick steering inputs. The early series had a hard earned reputation for rolling over in emergency maneuvers over 45 MPH.

The engine was a 141.5 C.I. 4 cylinder gas engine. Earlier models were powered by an AMC engine, then the later A2s were powered by a Ford Industrial 4 cylinder. Being that you are seeing the tag with a rated RPM of 4,000, it would be a gas engine. A diesel 4cylinder wouldn't like that much engine speed. What might be leading you to presume that your engine is a diesel is the size of the waterproof plug wires and plugs. They can look like diesel injectors at first glance.

If it has a firing order 1-3-4-2, it is probably not a diesel. I see references to the distributor and to "petrol" engine, so I'd bet it is a gasoline engine, BUT - I also see a number of references to retrofits of small diesels.

The "AMC" probably references to an American Motors production contract.

The original engine was nicknamed the "Hercules" engine.
