So here is one frame I am looking at,
The story goes that the guys dad wanted to build/restore a jeep. They got this frame that had a tub sitting on it. The engine was removed and in pieces, Project Jeep. The dad changed his mind and is looking for a jeepster, so they are getting rid of this. He gave me these three pictures which really are not all that great. Initially I thought front cross member had a crack near the battery tray. after looking at pictures of other frames, I realized it was not a crack but left over metal from the battery tray (the front portion is missing). Does this frame look OK to work with or should I pass on it. anybody spot red flags?

From the looks of picture #1 there is no gear set in the differential housing on the front axle JNJ, which would tell me that the whole carrier, pinion, bearings and axles have been taken out of it, maybe not everything but vital parts have been removed (carrier and pinion shaft for sure).
The tranny and transfer case has been taken out as well, I guess it all depends on how much want to buy to get going on it and how much he is asking for it.
The rest of the frame seems to be in pretty decent shape for something that has been siting outside for some time from the looks of the brush growing up through it.

jnj, the front cross member appears to have part of the battery support still there where the front of the support was welded on. The battery support is available and can be repaired. The frame looks to be repairable in my opinion, however it is hard to tell what you have there with the pictures. If its a good price You should consider it. You might want to get more and larger pictures for us to see.

Thanks for the input guys. Here is a little more info. I have a cj2A and would prefer a frame that I could cleanup and paint versus one that I would have to do mods or welding. The one thing I am not is a great welder and only have one that is meant to do sheet metal (thin)
I would be looking for a frame only (good leaf springs would be a +) The fact that the tranny and transfer case is shot or robbed, does not matter to me. Unlike a few other frames that I was looking at which had a rediculously high asking price or were part of a complete jeep when I am only looking for a frame, The cost of this one is very reasonable.
From my other thread, I am beginning to think this frame might actually be a 3A frame because it does not have reinforcement strap and is not boxed in the rear. cant tell about engine mounts or front bumper as pics are not that good. THe gentleman is suppose to be sending me more pictures, hopefully today. I am a little leary about a 3A frame as it may get me into areas that I am not prepared to address, unless you guys tell me it is not a big deal

This frame looks like a very good candidate. It appears to be a 2A frame from the front frame horns. It looks like it has the early 2A bumper gussets under the plate, (winch mount plate?)

Here are additional pictures sent to me. I was pretty convinced that this was a 3A frame, but the one pic of the motor mounts do look like they could be equa distant.

So the one picture that shows the engine mounts seems to show them mounted equa distant. On the Kaiser site, there is a pic that shows early cj2a frame with front gussets and a later frame without front gussets. also in the later frame, does not seem to show them boxed in if you can beleive this kaiser site. Perhaps on late cj2A. the used cj3A frame and mounted the engine mounts equa distant. Is this a possability?

There are a few things on the latter 2A's that were eventually used on the 3A's. You can believe the Kaiser site. Just keep in mind at model year and style model changes, there can definitely be parts common between the two.

Appears to be a cj2a to me. Have one just like it, that is suppose to be a cj2a. Notice tab on front of front cross member in the middle,
grill mounts to that in the middle of cj2a frame. Looks good to me , but cant quite see how much pitting in frame but pic seems to look good as far as that goes. Ill buy the gas tank from ya ,if you get it. Have cj3b frame that doesnt have that tab in the middle of front cross member.

I concur that you are looking at a 2A frame form the sounds of it.
