Steering

Can some play be taken out of the steering by the adjusting stud located on the side of the steering box
Looking to buy some time before I rebuild the box

Not really. You might be able to take out a very small amount but you will run into the stops on the sector shaft on full turns. The high point is adjusted at assembly and isn't really a wear adjustment. I would just hang in there and rebuild the box. If there is a lot of play at the sector shaft, a rebuild really is the best way.
