M38A1's present more of a challenge than the civilian Jeeps. First of all, they are 24-volt electrical systems with all of the wires shielded and tied together with quick disconnect plugs and...
I love the wheel color. Real men can paint their wheels any color they dern well want and dare somebody to poke fun at them!
A friend of mine had an old Cessna (circa 1954) that had a really...
I caught that - we're talking about headlights and you asked; "Enlighten me Senior Chief!" GROAN!
WOW – here we go again into a new and exciting question. It’s been too long. I’d never heard of...
TJones brags on old flat fenders, but his Orange Crush is anything but old once you get past the fenders!
It is VERY nice, but I wonder if he went just a bit overboard with the eye shadow around...
AARGHHHH!!!
It's been one of those Midwest winters that drive you nuts. Not really enough snow to make it wintery and pretty, just muddy and UGLY. It looks like you could get out and do things...
Just a warning.
If you decide to look for an old Jeep truck, you need to know they are chick magnets.
First the little kids want to sit in it and "drive".
Next their mothers want to...
Thanks to all for the great welcome!
35 days and a wake up :)
I rescued the square speedometer (it literally fell off the rusted dash and into my hands)"
35 days and a wake-up, the true...
It took me several days to realize that you had made a breakthrough with this technique - a Redneck Netti Pot.
This gives a whole new meaning to "Hey ya'll - hold my beer!"
(It's winter, we're...
Welcome to the group.
And, Thank You for going places I'm way to old to go to and I wouldn't have wanted to go to when I could!
I don't know if a Jeep project would be called a de-stressing...
"However, for now, i am dealing w/ electrical issues: while wiring up a second (Righthand) wiper something shorted badly. So in the throes of going over every wire and replacing many wasted/worn-out...
Patience Grasshopper... the first requirement for a Jeep Project.
Well, it has been really quiet around here the last month or so - I think the biggest head scratcher was about self-parking windshield wipers.
I'm glad your wife is getting better, it's not...
Pictures will help us figure this critter out...
Here is a good description of how the alternator does its thing:

I found it interesting that the writer makes this comment:
"High output aside, don't...
Yep, that little spark is a sure sign of a sneak path load somewhere. The M38 series with the24-volt systems are notorious for developing sneak path discharge issues.
Unlike several other instances, a speedometer cable that is almost too short works better than one just a little too long!
I used Bob's Speedometer for the '48 Truck speedometer. They are good, they will fix a problem with no quibbling or bickering, fixes for problems go to the head of the line, they communicate well...
Does your cluster have just an "Amps" light - no gauge?
WE may have Girarffelephant here - or a Hippogator. The Hippogator is a mythical beast with a head on both ends. That makes him really mean ...
I need to scratch my head a bit ...
Does the...
A. We usually end up fixing the last thing we look at. AS my wife once wisely said; "I always find my car keys in the last place I look". I couldn't resist; "There is no telling what else you...
Well, we try to help.
The 55 CJ5 was originally a 6-volt Jeep, 12-volt conversion was about '57 and that was originally a generator, not an alternator. You have a conversion to a 12-volt...
We can handle sideways and upside down. If you're up under the dash, it's upside down anyway.
You seem to have a basic 12-volt conversion.
I'd bet the original generator was swapped for an alternator with an internal regulator, so you don't need the original three-terminal voltage...
If you're being owned by a Jeep (they own you - not vice versa), I'd suggest you go ahead and buy the shop manual for it. You will find answers to questions in the Manual that you didn't know you...
