Surprised the heck out of me too. Didn't know my own strength.
This explains why I couldn't shift out of Reverse.
Busted trans linkage.
Fix:
Ordered new 19/64 O.D steel rod off Amazon. Will bend to shape, thread the end and replace.

Here is the "finished" product. In case future guy runs into this issue; I took a single strand of copper from a high gauge wire, soldered it onto the broken tail. Then I wound it around the end and...
It works but I did order a new one from KW just to have more fault tolerance. And also use the dissected one to teach my kids about variable resistors, sending units et al.
Next is to get going on...
I'm not sure so much effort and time was well spent on an item that will never see the light of day again, at least in my lifetime. ;) But troubleshooting and figuring out the issue was well worth...
1949 Willys Jeepster
Hi All,
Added to the list of small things make for interesting problems. Ever since I got this beauty the gas guage has always been pinned at E. I've read all the links from...
Wanted to post a quick update on this horn issue. My issue was in the parts that KW doesn't sell in the horn assembly in the original schematic. I ended up taking a spring from a wheel cylinder and...
I would normally say a rodent but that starter is sealed up so tight I dont think a mouse could even get in. It was a new one for sure but I tend to think there was a felt type paper tape that lined...
Well, she started. Several times. Still curious what that nesting was inside the starter.

I cleaned it up, made sure the brushes were snug and put it back together. Note the dust cover is currently off but has been on and will be back on after this bench test.

Hi All,
I have a starter issue with a 1949 Jeepster.
It was a weak crank and spotty turn over. I took out the starter and opened the housing. I found this pile of debris inside the case and am...
After over a year on jack stands and a punch list that seemingly never ended this beauty is back on the road. Still a lot of work to do but awesome to get it out of the garage, if for no other reason...
Here is an update and to close out this post.
Cut - grind - patched with 3/16 steel - POR inside and out.

What do you think about cutting back the rust and lapping the new steel to tie the two parts of the frame together? Kind of like a cast.
That's what I was thinking. It does appear riveted in most places.
Sorry. Having issues with posting pics. Here it is a little better I hope.

This is on a 1949 Jeepster and is under / behind the left side control arm. I cant find a name for it anywhere. Outside of "hot rust mess".

Quick update. I am going to declare success. At some point someone wired the temp guage to the (-) post on the coil. Once I connected that wire to temp sensor and fired her up the guage went back to...
Showing my true amatuer skills but I just discovered that my temp sensor doesnt even have a wire nutted to it. It was obscured by the plug wires so I didnt see it at first. Doh!5498
That is an amazing description of these sensors. Better than the shop manual. I have taken apart both the temp and fuel gauges. It amazes me how the wires for the bi-metal strips are hair thin and so...
Does anyone know how to calibrate the temp sensor?
This is from a 1949 Jeepster. At rest it pins at the 212 degree and when I drop 6v across the posts it drops to 100 degress.
I should add that...
Hi All, I am getting ready to put my steering wheel back together and had a question on the horn. In the attached picture I am wondering what the 3 items I marked with red lines are?
I have / am...
1949 Willys Jeepster Overland
Hey Guys, I took the front seats out of the Jeepster. Vinyl is in decent shape but the springs are rotted away. Is there a better way to replace the cushioning...
