Make sure you have enough gap in the points.
Yep. Good oil pressure. Thanks.
The oil leaks from the top of the cannister. What is the correct order of the cap and various felt, rubber, and crush washers?
The listed displacement of the 4 cylinder engines is 134.2 cubic inches. The firing order is 1-3-4-2.
Coincidence?
Thanks. That answers all my questions about the oil filter and lines.
Anyone got a pic of an F engine with the oil filter line routing?
Yep, the outlet near the fuel pump was plugged. Since the filter and return line are brand new (installed somewhere back up the line), it would make sense that it is plugged.
Okay, I see that the oil filter fills with oil and the overflow goes out the side and down to the timing gear cover, but where does the oil line come from? I'm working on another person's project...
They were Perfect Circle rings. I don't know what material they are made of.
Well, I received the 0.030 over rings today and the manufacturer recommended a MINIMUM (yes, they used all caps) of 0.004" per inch of piston diameter. When I received the rings, they would touch...
I am almost certain that is was originally a 24 V system because the battery compartment has room for two batteries but one tray is gone.
Thanks. I will count the teeth on the flywheel. I'm pretty sure that the Jeep has been converted to a 12 v system because the headlights have 12V on them.
So I tore down the engine for a rebuild and remove the starter. I never heard the starter crank so I decided that it would be a good idea to make sure the solenoid and starter were good.

I ordered a Felpro gasket set from OReillys and a set of Perfect Circle rings from ebay. I'm confident both will be good.
Nothing wrong with JC Whitney if you fit the parts. Whoever put the rings in didn't bother to test fit them. I doubt the engine has run in a long, long time. The bearings are great and look new and...
The end gap on the rings was greater than I thought. The rings that came out had an end gap of 0.11" and the oil rings would fall out of the cylinder. It all adds up to zero or very little...

Get them from a parts store. They are literally only a piece of steel with a hole for the head bolt and a hole for the hoist. But most people use a short length of chain with the bolt directly...
Thanks. There really isn't a ridge around the cylinder. It's more carbon build up than ridge. I'm going with a set of 0.020 oversize rings and see if the have a decent end gap.
Wet sand it with 400 grit wet or dry.
I am in the process of tearing down a F series engine and have a few questions.
First according to the specs, the bore is 3.125" and when I measure the bore it is indeed 3.125" and there is...

Not a very friendly bunch here. :(
Hello. Just bought a 1953 M38A1 Willys Jeep. The previous owner had stripped it down to the bare frame and cleaned and repainted the chassis and suspension and drive train. The fenders will need to...
