Thanks all, again! I've ordered new shackles but they're back ordered. Jeep Hut had a decent price but they're back ordered until May. I can't wait that long now because, after driving it a little...
I actually drove around the block a few times with no brakes at all. I just kept it in the super low gear. I let off on the gas and it nearly comes to a stop. Probably not the smartest thing to do...
I'm back... alive more or less. Surgery was "successful" but still in pain. Doctor says it can take a year or more for results sometimes...
In the meantime, I finished my brake overhaul and back to...
Just to finish off this thread...
I had major surgery back in November so the jeep had to wait. I started the overhaul before surgery and finished it about two weeks ago. I did keep two original...
Thanks. I thought I was a member there, but non of my log in info worked. It took 5 attempts to join. It kept rejecting everything I put in, and I'm an admin on a huge forum!
I'm waiting for my...
Just to verify the part numbers, I wrote to OMIX and received this reply:
Dear Mark Jeffries,
Factory is 8 leaf front and 9 leaf rear.
The 18201.01 should be what you need for the front and...
Thank you! I installed another brake line yesterday: that little squiggly one to the wheel cylinder. Tomorrow morning, the surgery "party" starts. I'll order my leaf springs while I'm out of service....
That's a great point. Thank you. Yes at least I did know the "reason for holes" like the huge-*** one on the side for the CB antenna! That will be one of them that I'll have filled in eventually...
I wholeheartedly agree!! What I thought was good back in the late 70's has changed a little.
Working on this jeep is somewhat surreal. It sat so long in the garage that it became sort of a "ghost"...
Thanks everyone, again.
My Rancho's were 5 spring originally. I removed one and nothin happened! So I'm glad to know of the correct type. I want my jeep back to its old self again. :)
I want to return my 3B back to stock height and ride.
I'm looking at the OMIX leaf springs. I'm removing the Ranchos... they're awful. There are two different types of OMIX showing up as "stock...
Thanks everyone!
I was obviously undereducated on suspension when I bought that set. Well, I was 16 and now I'm nearly 60! (I was 15 when I bought it - my first car!)
I think I'll remove them and...
So, 41 years ago, I had to copy my friends and get this Rancho leaf spring set. Originally there were 4 leaves which was WAY too stuff. I removed one spring years ago and the darn thing is still too...
Sorry everyone for the three month delay! I've had some health issues and just didn't get back on.
I'll likely NOT get the OMIX lines and instead go with a better quality or perhaps paint them or...
Is Omix ADA the "best" brand? Seems it's the only brand. When I last worked on my jeep, there weren't half the aftermarket parts available today.
THANKS EVERYONE!
Hmmmmm decisions...
Decision made when I heard
"If the brakes don't stop it, something will."
Fluid is definitely out but the jeep has been inside the garage all this time....
I have a 1957 CJ3, dead in the garage for 24 years now. The brake fluid all leaked out. I have an entire kit for new original brakes I'd like to install. My question is - can I just flush the heck...
I guess he doesn't want to go faster!
Surprised no one has answered here! I'm a total newbie and I have one answer: A Warn overdrive!
It will give you a higher top speed. I just don't know how hard they are to find now. They fit right...
