    paint codes??

    hello,
i've got a 85' ski nautique that i'm fixing up and i was thinking of painting/building my boat with a 40's era military sort of theme. maybe some sort of mix between a willys jeep and a bomber.. does anyone have some paint codes for the military green that came on the jeeps?

    thanks,
    jim

    Hi Jim,
Although there is much debate concerning a perfectly matched "original" olive drab color, many commercial automotive paints (like PPG, Dupont, or Sherwin-Williams) can be mixed in military colors matching the FS595 code numbers. Most automotive paint shops will look up the color codes and mix it for you. The color code you will want is 34087.

On Olive-Drab: there is no fixed shade OD. Every batch of paint delivered to the factories was a little different from the other. I would almost say that there are as much shades OD as there are jeeps. As long as the color you choose is OD and not green you can pretty much pick the shade you like, but it must be lusterless/flat if you are going for an original feel.

    OD paint manufacturers/numbers:
    Gillespie early WWII 33070 (1941-43)
    Gillespie late WWII 319 (1943-45)
Gillespie WWII 34087 (not sure about dates)
