    Run without transfer case?

Greetings! I have a 1960 4WD Utility Wagon needing engine & tranny work----I'm not hot on rebuilding the transfer case too---happy with a 2WD for now----is there a way to close off front differential but leave it there?
    Thanks! Wayback Willys Portland OR

Is there any issues with the transfer case now? If it is in good shape currently, then you can leave it alone. If you have manual locking hubs, leave them in the unlocked position. Then the front differential will not turn while driving.

If there is a problem with the transfer case, then you would have to find a two wheel drive transmission, and drive shaft. One thing to take in consideration on that option would be a two wheel drive specific transmission, then the gearing would not be as well matched as if the wagon was a two wheel drive from the factory. In short, the rear differential gear ratio would be set up for the four wheel drive. You may not notice much of a difference, except for shifting points, especially starting out.
