Hello all,
I have recently acquired a 1970 DJ-5A and have zero experience with any jeep older than mid 90's.
Mine has the small (I assume original) Chevy 4 cylinder 153 2.5l engine with a 3 speed automatic trans, not sure which one though.
So, my main question for now is this, when going up an incline in 3rd gear the jeep barely has enough power to get up.
I believe this engine is only around 75hp so im not expecting diesel power or anything but is this typical?
Trans seems to shift just fine through all three gears, but doesnt really down shift unless i greatly let up off the gas.
It shifts quickly through 1st and 2nd and seems to be at pretty low rpm in 3rd.
Am I looking more for a transmission issue? Or should my focus be elsewhere?

Thanks,
Matt
