    1949 JEEPSTER- 463 vs 663, 4 Cylinder brings 6?

I maybe over thinking the obvious answer here, but here goes.
The VIN ID for a 4 cylinder Jeepster is 463, and for the 6 cylinder it’s 663, correct? I purchesaded my ‘49 6 cylinder from the owner stating “original engine and drive train”. Well, my VIN is “463” so, the correct assumption would be that this is not the original engine, right?
Was it possible in 1949 for a “463” to come with a 6 cylinder?
Is there any way to identify when the engine was produced? Does Willys have an engine decoder?

*Title typo... 4 cylinder “vs” 6... don’t know where “brings” came from

That is a good question. There isn't too many Jeepsters around, so the knowledge base is limited. I found a group that may be able to answer all your questions. When you find out, please report back so we all can learn from your findings.

Excellent, looks like it could be great site for Jeepsters. Only problem is, it’s been under construction for awhile, and you can’t register online. Have to download a form and mail it in.
I’ll give’r a try, and post updates, thanks.
