    Fender overlay CJ5 1966

Just bought new fenders, L and R. Any opinions on going without the typical fender overlay stiffeners?
Adding those looks to me like asking for another rust-through.

    Welcome Bajman27,
I'm trying to remember how the fenders mounted on a CJ5. I know on an M38A1, there is not the traditional Willys fender stiffener that bolts to the frame by two 3/8" fine threaded bolts. The early M38A1 frame had the threaded bolt holes for the traditional stiffeners, but the new style fenders did not have the stiffeners.

If yours is different, please drop a photo and we will see what exactly you have to work with.

I am referring to the weld-on panel behind the wheel, ahead of the tub. Thanks for the response.
