    Hello from Navarre Beach.

    We recently acquired a 1960 CJ5. It somewhat reminds me of past days cruising in my '70 GTO but a lot slower...
    I have rigged it for flat towing in case of break down during our short drives to and from the beach. The owners manual states for standard towing, (front wheels up) "The gears in both the transmission and transfer case must be in their neutral positions."
    Questions;
    1. Anyone with experience with flat towing these older jeeps? Would this be safe for short flat towing > 5 miles?
    2. For longer distances should both drive shafts be disconnected?

    Yes you are in good shape for a 5 mile tow with everything in neutral. Removing the driveshafts is always a good idea for a long haul.

    The GTO could not go where your Jeep can however!

    It also allows me to better enjoy the scenery!
    Thanks for the info!

    And 5JeepsAz weighs in with a solid question! We must assume it is unlicensed perhaps? It cannot be fear.
