    Cleaning Vehicle plates

I now own a 1953 Willys Jeep MD 40675; appears I have most plates belonging to her though illegible. Hoping someone can tell me the best method to use for cleaning them. I would rather have her original plates so do not wish to order duplicates. Willing to begin restoration with this cleaning task. Tx for any help with this.

I use paint thinner and a razor blade at a flat angle to remove paint off of the data plates. I have seen guys use oven cleaner and brake fluid to loosen the paint for removal.

From an oven cleaner guy, just known the thing about oven cleaner - it works and no going back.
