    Oil filter lines

Okay, I see that the oil filter fills with oil and the overflow goes out the side and down to the timing gear cover, but where does the oil line come from? I'm working on another person's project and the oil filter line was missing.

There is a hole in the side of the block that opens into an oil gallery in behind the fuel pump.

All of the tubing turns into a rats nest there.

Some Jeeps have that hole plugged if the oil filter went away.

It will take a brass/bronze ell-fitting to turn the corner and let you route an oil line across the front of the engine.

Input side of the filter is on the side at the top, bottom is timing gear sump drain.

We used a flex line to go to the inlet side of the filter.

As Larry said, it comes from the front of the block right next to the oil pump. It then goes in the side of the filter. It drains out the bottom into the timing cover. Here are a couple more pics.

Yep, the outlet near the fuel pump was plugged. Since the filter and return line are brand new (installed somewhere back up the line), it would make sense that it is plugged.

Anyone got a pic of an F engine with the oil filter line routing?

It's hard to see with the fuel pump installed. I tried to work a little digital camera back in there, but nothing doing.

Maybe someone has a picture of an engine build up in progress.

No difference Patriot, it's in the same spot. Same routing of the lines.

    Great set of How-To instructions!

Yeah, to get a picture you need to get underneath and look up! The flex hoses are probably a better installation than the steel tubing we used - easier to route too.

Thanks. That answers all my questions about the oil filter and lines.
