"Well, it seemed to be a good idea at the time.."

Been there, said that - and then more.

It seems as this chemical cured, air pockets were entrapped, leaving surface noted. So with great effort, DA sanded this flat, filled the air pockets, refinished with textured surface as I was doing exterior trim.

Looking into Flex Seal liquid Black for future projects

    This stuff works very well.

https://plastidip.com/our-products/plasti-dip/ I have used it on everything from eye glass stems around the ears, to tool handles.

I use their liquid tape in marine electrical applications.

The Plastidip is good stuff. At least we learned that the bed liner stuff isn't the way to go.

It certainly looked and sounded like a good idea. Bed liner is tough and goes on thick. I kinda wonder what went wrong?

Bed liner is Very tough stuff, and I’m not a Chemist by no means but it kinda looks like the bed liner had some kinda chemical reaction with with the plastic handles.
Kind of like trying to wipe down a piece of plastic with lacquer thinner to clean it up a little, it starts to melts the plastic.
It did look like a Amazing idea though!!!

It was good while it lasted, right? :-) I slept easy on it, and next time I seen it, I was like what the heck happened.

Something happened:-) Once cured out, it had little air pockets?? But, Oh well, right?? If that is the worst thing to happen with all this nonsense, We Good:-)
