Interested in hearing opinions regarding flat towing one of these Jeeps. On-line research seems to indicate the suggested method is to remove the rear drive shaft and front hubs unlocked. I'm wondering if there's any concerns with the rear? My Jeep has super steep gears, I think they're factory 5.38. Obviously never intended to be traveling at 70- 75- maybe even 80mph on the highway. Just running the scenario through my head, would think the pinion bearing is very vulnerable??? That thing would be turnin like nobody's business at 80mph!

Flat towing is not a problem. There is a discussion or two on the forum about this. The one caution from gmwillys is to be sure your tow rig out weighs what your pulling. I pull both driveshafts or unlock the front hubs and leave the front shaft in. Yes the pinion in the rear will be spinning but, its not under power and will have no trouble with the RPM. If you want to see how its doing a quick shot with an infrared heat gun will show you if it is seeing any type of wear. It wont be, it should be cold unless something is wrong with the bearings.
