Yikes! The fan issue needs t be corrected Catlewis. The belt needs to be square and directly in line with the water pump pulley. You should not trim the fan. The alternator pulley location needs to match the water pump and crankshaft pulley geometry exactly. A straightedge should be used to make sure all the pulleys are square and in line. Your Alternator pulley looks way off in the photo. That belt will not last or stay on.
The pulley alignment is what I was trying to show there. It is hard to see in the photographs I have given. The pulley should be in exactly the same place fore and aft, and exactly the same plane it was in originally. If the fan did not hit the original pulley, no mater what it was mounted on, it shouldn't hit it now regardless of what alternator or generator you have on there. Something is definitely not right catlewis. Take some pictures that show the water pump pulley to the alternator pulley alignment.
If its working, you cant argue with success! I cant figure that one out catlewis, the pulley should be in the same place it was originally as far as alignment. I cant figure out how it would suddenly be hitting the fan. It should be the same distance from the fan it was originally unless the pulley is "thicker". The belt needs to run without any misalignment. If that's what you have, you have it as good as it can be.
Took the old Jeep on a 20 mile ride in the mountains Sunday. Had to chain-up on the icy areas. The chains vibrated the Jeep so much, lost one of the headlight trim rings!peej8.jpg
