Assistance please
I've posted before but have a little more information. I would absolutely love to restore my 1953 Willys M38A1 to her original assignment in the Korean War so asking for any help. When I purchased her, she had hood marking of USMC 529353; her Willys patent plate states serial number 57743; her ID plate states I'd #MD 40675. I've researched the available lists I can find yet still perplexed. If anyone has any guidance which would assist me, I would be so grateful. Thank you.

Here is a couple of sources that will help you understand the method of the madness to how the numbers were assigned. The Marine Corp had the jeep assigned to a unit at delivery. The division will be one of three shapes on the front bumper and the rear bumperette, i.e. diamond, square, etc. The Army Jeeps were assigned a USA number from the factory, so records were a lot more spotty at best.
