    Rear Differential Service Questions

Getting ready to drain and pull the rear differential cover on a 45 MB. It probably has not been serviced in 50 years and I have to retrieve the end of the long axle which broke off. Is this the drain plug on the underside [picture] because it looks like a drain plug in the middle of the back cover too? I'm a novice - all help welcome.

Hello Felipe, no drain plug. You remove the rear cover slowly, bottom first. The plug on the side and cover are to fill. You fill until lubricant just reaches the hole and begins to run out.

The diff was very clean. And I can see the broken end to the left side axle which I will push down the tube a bit and hopefully grab it with a stick magnet. Thanks for your help.
