"On top of that I just got my drivers license today, so now I'm really fired up!"

It is easy to forget that you are as young as you are. In a world where so many young people can't write a lucid sentence or who can't undertake any task more complex than resetting their X-Box, you are well into a project that -is worthy of respect and note.

    "Buy him doughnuts and beer."

Bob, he's too young to buy beer - even for someone else. Don't help get him in trouble - he'll manage on his own.....

Take an attaboy for your attitude and approach to life.

That is a very well produced video. I am impressed that you have the right tools to do the work you are doing and you are using very good techniques. It isn't a Bubba and Junior project by any means.

Great job '56 on getting your license. Of course we had little doubt in you since you've been driving Flossy plus anything else with wheels around for a while.

Your machinist definitely deserves a coffee and a donut. I'll have to check out your video later on tonight. It sure sounds like you have made all the right decision, even if it was scarry to start with!

Thank you all for the super kind words, it really motivates me to keep going! I appreciate ya'll watching the video, I really enjoy making them. It adds a bit of time to projects, but if i can help someone else by sharing information, it's all worth it.

I was definitely shocked at the price, I wasn't expecting anything less than double that. That price even includes hot tanking the parts! I'm happy you guys set me straight and got me going right (thanks for putting up with my stubbornness) . I think I'll order the complete kit, after all that I'm doing at this point, I think a new oil pump will be good idea. I had already got a gasket set before I started the disassembly, in hopes of just putting it right back together. It is Federal-mugul brand (which owns fel-pro) so if KW doesn't include a felpro I can use that.

That's interesting Bob, I didn't realize oil consumption would cause detonation.

I'll definitely do something for my machinist, he's really helping me out. I don't know anyone who doesn't like donuts. That one phone call completely changed my outlook on things. I attend enough local car events, I can spread some goods words around easily.

Not many think about that one '56. The oil consumes space and does not compress, it is flammable and can ignite early. It leaves carbon deposits increasing the pressure causing detonation. The hammering breaks the lands on the piston. You can tell if it was caused by the oil from all the contamination and the lack of signs of excessive heat. When you damage the piston from too lean detonation, you see signs of melting the piston and excessive heat.

I wonder if bad rings caused the holes in the piston, there were no signs of excessive heat.

Awhile back I believe there was an update on PeeJ where an oil line had failed. I forget where you got your replacements. My engine had metal lines going to the filter canister. Should
i remake new hard lines or buy rubber? I kinda want to go rubber that way it's easier and I don't have to worry about my homemade flares failing, less things to worry about.

Here is the link. They should have them all.

I would say the oil was coming from a combination of the rings wearing out and the bore wearing oversize. Detonation probably broke the rings.
