    Fittings on flathead

    Hi and good morning to all, I'm putting my 46' flathead motor back on the frame and have a question....On the head is a hole with 3/8 pipe thread that I can't remember what went there. It is at the rear left of the head and I do know it is part of the cooling system....It's not the temp sending unit, thats on the side of head above the starter....I can't send pics..
    Thanks, Dave

    Hello David, it is the "port" for the heater by-pass. If there is a Heater in the vehicle, there is a valve there that controls the flow of water to the heater. If there is no heater, it is plugged.

    Definitely no need for a heater in Florida, but just incase anyone is interested, the following link is for the OEM style coolant shut off valve;
