Hi Guys! It's been a while since I was last posting. Progress has been slow. I've lately been concentrated on rebuilding the Ramsey PTO that was on the transmission/transfer case. I'll be posting details of that soon since I could not find much of anything on how to rebuild these PTOs. Hopefully it will help someone down the road.
However, I did have a question on something that has been bugging me since I took the body off the frame. On the drivers side, right next the body mount near where the driver's side door would be is a little bracket that is bolted to the frame that has the remnants of some sort of canvas/rubber strap attached to it. I have no idea what this might be for or if it was original and was wondering if someone here might know? It appears to be bolted quite well to the frame and looks as old as the frame, but who knows. You can see the location of this bracket relative to the transmission/transfer case and the crossmember in the first photo. For the life of me, I can't figure out what this might have been used for. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hmmm... That looks factory. I have no idea what that is.

My cj had brackets similar to that in locations for exhaust mounts. Maybe that's what you have? But that's not the right spot, unless someone had a custom exhaust at some point?

I was thinking it looked like an old school exhaust hanger 56'. I wonder if it held up a side exit exhaust.

I'm not the expert here, but I concur with it looking like the remains of a deteriorated exhaust hanger

I third the exhaust hanger thought. I can't think of anything else it could have been for.

Thanks, guys. I know it is not an exhaust hanger because I've known this Jeep virtually all of its existence and it never had a side mounted exhaust or an exhaust line on the outside of the frame. I wouldn't expect to find a canvas reinforced rubber strap on an exhaust hanger either. No worries. I don't need it. I was just wondering what it might be. I appreciate your thoughts, though.
