I would not worry about the back if it feels like its only got a small amount of radial play. If it is way out it would allow the shift rail to start to "cock" between the bores and cause a little sticky shifting maybe. I have not seen a case worn so badly that it bothered me. I bet your good to go. A lot of the gears and parts in these transmissions and transfer cases are better off in less than perfect condition, as opposed to the will fit or "NOS" parts you are going to buy. If it shifts on the bench the way you like, its a good one! The original parts were made in Toledo Ohio on Bennett Road. There is a good chance my Grandfather had something to do with the transfer case. The will fit parts you buy now a days.... I really am guessing where their made now, and to what engineering specification?

Unfortunately most of our parts are pretty hammered, with deep pitting, grooving etc. Just got my first batch of replacement parts in today. Can't wait to start on re-assembly.

Some NOS parts showed up today for the transmission and transfer case....lots more to come! There is something oddly satisfying about opening brand new 1950's parts....love it!

Lot's of gooey grease, did it's job well....part is like new inside.

NICE! The box has the Toledo Address. Now that NOS place of manufacture is known! During the war and after, parts could have been made in a lot of places. I love it when the place of origin is Toledo. That is as original as it gets.
