    L134 engine rebuild

Good Morning, my 90 yr old father and I are in the process of rebuilding his 46 CJ-2a that has sat for approx. 30 years.... tub is coming along nicely and will be setting on a 3B frame. we are looking for help getting the engine rebuilt but I am struggling to find someone here in the mid-west (am located in Cedar Rapids, IA) we dont have the tools or knowledge to do this ourselves. Several Valves were stuck, I believe the head will need shaved & block decked, replace valves, guides and seats at min.

anyone have any recommendations on who to reach out to here in the mid-west that is knowledgeable and reputable for engine rebuild?

    Thank You!! Mike Sweet

Hello Mike! There are a few threads on here about this one. In general your best bet is to drive to the closest shops and see if they are busy. If they are I always ask for a quick tour. If the place is fairly neat, and there is steady work going on, ask them if they are familiar with the "Go Devil 134".

Dead giveaway if the machine shop you're considering is good, great, or exceptional, can be quickly determined by learning if they do work for drag racers and or the local dirt track crowd. Two of the most prevalent grass roots motor sports where the general public participates and relies on local machine shop work. If the machine shop is on top of their game, their client list will be filled with local motor sports enthusiasts.
